Coastal Flood Warnings TTAA00 KRDU 131249 COASTAL FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH/DURHAM NC 745 AM EST FRI MAR 12 1993 ...A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE OCEAN BEACHES SOUTH OF CAPE HATTERAS... ...A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR THE OUTER BANKS FROM CAPE HATTERAS NORTH TO THE VIRGINIA BORDER... AN INTENSE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED OVER SOUTHERN GEORGIA EARLY THIS SATURDAY MORNING WILL MOVE RAPIDLY NORTHEASTWARD AND CROSS NORTH CAROLINA THIS AFTERNOON. STRONG WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS STORM WILL DRIVE OCEAN WATERS ASHORE ALONG THE ENTIRE NORTH CAROLINA COAST TODAY WHERE STORM WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT. THE SOUTHERN COASTAL AREA WAS THE FIRST TO FEEL THE EFFECTS OF THE STRONG WINDS. AT 7 AM WIND GUSTS REACHED 71 MPH AT HOLDEN BEACH AND 52 MPH AT WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH. SEAS AND SURF WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD ALONG THE COAST. BEACH EROSION AND SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS LIKELY ALONG OCEAN BEACHES SOUTH OF CAPE HATTERAS TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA BORDER ESPECIALLY AROUND TIME OF HIGH TIDE LATE THIS MORNING. THESE CONDITIONS MAY GRADUALLY SPREAD NORTHWARD FROM CAPE HATTERAS TO THE VIRGINIA BORDER TODAY WHERE A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES IN EFFECT. THIS WATCH WILL BE UPGRADED TO A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IF THE THREAT WORSENS. AS THE STORM MOVES NORTHWARD AWAY FROM THE AREA TONIGHT WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE SOUTHWEST BUT REMAIN VERY STRONG. THIS WILL POSE THE THREAT OF SOME FLOODING ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF THE OUTER BANKS FROM SOUND WATERS. REMEMBER...A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS LIKELY AND A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS POSSIBLE. PRECAUTIONS AGAINST FLOODING SHOULD BE UNDERWAY IN THE WARNING AREA AND PREPARATIONS TO TAKE PRECAUTIONARY ACTIONS SHOULD BE MADE IN THE WATCH AREA. LISTEN TO LOCAL RADIO...
