Effective on or around June 3rd, WFO Guam will modify its tropical cyclones (TC) web page, https://www.weather.gov/gum/Cyclones to feature the probabilistic TC graphics produced by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) in Honolulu, Hawaii. These graphics are based on the TC forecasts from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Additionally, deterministic forecast tracks indicating TC wind radii will no longer be posted by WFO Guam. The CPHC-produced graphics were first introduced to the western North Pacific (WNP) in 2022, as experimental graphics, before becoming operational in 2023. Three types of forecast graphics will be posted for each active TC in the WNP: 3- and 5-day track and error cones, wind speed probabilities for 34- 50- and 64-kt winds, and arrival times of tropical storm (TS) winds. These graphics better convey the uncertainty in TC motion and TC wind arrival time. For more information, see the Service Change Notices issued on 23 Feb 2023 for... Note: These graphics will not have a backup production site in the event conditions exist that prevent the product from being issued from the original production source at JTWC or CPHC.
