Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Southern Plains; Fire Weather Threat in the Southwest U.S.

Thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy to excessive rainfall and isolated flooding over portions of the Southern Plains today and Saturday. Dry conditions, combined with gusty winds and low relative humidities will continue to support an elevated to critical fire weather threat in the Desert Southwest into to early next week. September 2015 will go down in the record books as one of the warmest Septembers on record across north-central and northeast Wisconsin away from Lake Michigan. Portions of northeast Wisconsin also experienced one of the wettest Septembers on record. Here is a look at how September ranked at Green Bay, Rhinelander and Wausau. Other locations from across north-central and northeast Wisconsin are listed below Wausau.

 

Green Bay

At Green Bay, the average temperature was 66.3 degrees or 7.1 degrees above normal and was tied for the second warmest September on record. Only 1931 at 67.3 degrees was warmer and tied 1908 at 66.3 degrees. The average September temperature is 59.2 degrees. The rainfall total for the month was 5.85 inches or 2.81 inches above normal, and was the 7th wettest September on record.

 Rhinelander   

At Rhinelander, the average temperature was 62.2 degrees or 6.7 degrees above normal and was the 3rd warmest September on record. The average September temperature is 55.5 degrees. Unlike the above normal rainfall at Green Bay, the rainfall total for the month at Rhinelander was 2.76 innches or 1.44 inches below normal.

 Wausau    

At Wausau, the average temperature was 64.9 degrees or 6.4 degrees above normal and was the 4th warmest September on record. The average September temperature is 58.5 degrees. The rainfall total for the month was 5.21 inches or 1.31 inches above normal, and was the 27th wettest September on record.
