The season started slowly, but record snowfall across the north was noted during February. From January 15th through March 5th, snowfall totals for this period were 200 to 400 percent of normal. For the season, snowfall averaged 20 to 40 inches above normal at most spots. At Rhinelander, the winter of 2018-19 will go down in the record books as the snowiest winter on record. The old record was 107.6 inches set during the winter of 2013-14. At Wausau, the total of 96.8 inches makes it the 3rd snowiest winter on record. Only the winters of 1908-09 with 103.8 inches and 1995-96 with 100.3 inches recorded more snow. At Green Bay, the total of 74.0 inches makes it the 12th snowiest winter on record. The deep snow pack and rapid rise in temperatures led to record flooding on the East, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc Rivers during mid to late March.
