Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Southern Plains; Fire Weather Threat in the Southwest U.S.

Thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy to excessive rainfall and isolated flooding over portions of the Southern Plains today and Saturday. Dry conditions, combined with gusty winds and low relative humidities will continue to support an elevated to critical fire weather threat in the Desert Southwest into to early next week. Overview

Severe thunderstorms formed over western Wisconsin and quickly moved across the central and southern part of the state during the afternoon of August 28, 2018. High winds and heavy rain occurred with the strongest storms. Trees and power lines were reported down from Waushara east to Manitowoc County.

Most of the heavy rainfall in the NWS Green Bay service area fell during the afternoon and early evening of August 28 across the Fox Valley including the city of Green Bay. Reports from weather observers indicated 2 to 4 inches of rain fell with the storms. Streets in Appleton were flooded with water up to the hoods of cars.
