National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Thunderstorms with winds over 60 mph and hail produced widespread damage across north-central, central, and northeast Wisconsin during the afternoon and evening of June 10, 2016, as a weather system moved over the region. Some of the hardest hit areas were in parts of Oneida and Vilas counties and southern Brown and Manitowoc counties.  Over 50,000 people were without power Friday evening.

Reports of funnel clouds were also received, but many were likely "scud" clouds associated with the shelf cloud pushing out ahead of the line of storms. A brief tornado occurred in Outagamie County near Mackville, but only a few tree limbs were damaged according to law enforcement and storm spotters. Click here for more information about the tornado. Most damage was caused by straight-line thunderstorm winds known as "downbursts."

Here is a radar loop showing the squall line of thunderstorms moving across the area.

Here are close up radar images (still and loop) from the NWS Green Bay Doppler radar showing reflectivity (left) and velocity as the severe storms were moving from Brown into Manitowoc County.

A preliminary summary of damage reports are below.
