Scattered Severe Storms to Continue Over the Central and Southern Plains this Weekend; Snow in the Sierra Nevada

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will persist over the central to southern High Plains this weekend with a severe weather and flash flooding threat. A late season storm will bring low elevation rain and high elevation snow to portions of California, Nevada and Oregon through the weekend. Overview

A band of heavy snow fell across central and northeast Wisconsin January 9-10, 2017. The snow developed as an area of low pressure rapidly developed in Iowa and quickly moved across Wisconsin. Behind the departing low, strong winds developed, gusting to near 50 mph during the evening of January 10. 

 

The highest snowfall totals included 11.5 inches in Crandon and 11.0 inches in Stevens Point. The highest wind gust reported was 53 mph in Omro. Green Bay measured a wind gust of 48 mph.

 

Numerous accidents were reported on area highways. Power outages were reported as a result of the gusty winds.
