The blue bars on the bar chart below indicate the number of tornadoes that have occurred each year in Yuma County since 1950.  For example, one tornado occurred in 1954, four tornadoes occurred in 1985, and two tornadoes occurred in 2017.  The only tornado rated EF2 or higher was the Yuma County EF3 Tornado that occurred in August of 2023  More information on the tornadoes that have occurred can be found in the table at the bottom of this page. The 8 tornadoes that Yuma County saw in 2023 was the most on record for any one year.

 

The blue bars on the chart below show the number of tornadoes that occurred in each month in Yuma County since 1950.  The orange bars indicate the number of tornado days that occurred in each month.  A tornado day is defined as a day where at least one tornado occurred.  To better understand this graph, take a look at the month of June.  The blue bar indicates that 37 tornadoes have occurred in the month of June.  The orange bar shows that there have been 26 days in June where tornadoes occurred.  Since the number of tornadoes exceeds the number of tornado days, we can infer that one or more days had multiple tornado reports.

 

 

The following table is a list of the tornadoes that have occurred in Yuma County.  Length is the length of the tornado path measured in miles.  The width of the tornado is measured in yards.  An ‘M’ indicates that the data is missing.  Scale indicates the F or EF rating a tornado was assigned.  In the scale column, a letter without a number indicates that a scale value was not assigned.
