...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 06/19/18 THUNDERSTORM WIND EVENT...

.OVERVIEW...A significant severe thunderstorm moved across 
southern Yuma County Colorado and Cheyenne County Kansas during 
the evening hours of June 19th. This supercell thunderstorm 
produced widespread wind and hail damage across the counties.

End time:               Approximately 7:30 pm CDT/6:45 pm MDT
End location:           6 miles southwest of Bird City, Kansas

Only portion of the storm surveyed was in Cheyenne County from 
the state line to HWY 27, along and south of HWY 36. In these
locations, a combination of significant straight-line winds and
large hail led widespread damage. Miles of agricultural fields
were shredded with farm animals also killed. Many homes sustained
damage to siding...windows...and roofs from windblown hail. One
barn south of HWY 36 in western Cheyenne County was flattened due
to the strong winds. These winds were estimated at 90 mph.
Additional sporadic damage to trees were observed with a few trees
snapped but many others losing significant branches...more than 6
inches in diameter.

While the entire track was not surveyed, significant agricultural
and some structural damage likely occurred from Abarr, Colorado to
near Bird City, Kansas. Reports of wind-driven hail damage were 
received from Yuma County Emergency Management in the Armel, 
Colorado and Beecher Island, Colorado areas. Hail to the size of 
baseballs and tree limbs were reported earlier near Abarr, 
Colorado.

gathering the information and assistance with the storm survey.
