...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 07/29/18 THUNDERSTORM WIND EVENT...

.OVERVIEW...A SIGNIFICANT SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORM MOVED ACROSS KIT
CARSON AND CHEYENNE COUNTIES IN EASTERN COLORADO DURING THE
EVENING HOURS OF JULY 29TH. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE OCCURRED DUE TO
DAMAGING STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS AND HAIL TO THE SIZE OF BASEBALLS.
THE TOWN MOST IMPACTED BY THESE STORMS IN TERMS OF WIND DAMAGE WAS
SEIBERT, COLORADO. THIS IS WHERE THE STORM SURVEY OCCURRED.

SURVEY SUMMARY: 

WIDESPREAD STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS WERE OBSERVED ON SUNDAY, JULY 29TH
AS A RESULT OF AN INTENSE SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORM. GENERALLY, WINDS
WERE BETWEEN 75 MPH AND 105 MPH. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE
OCCURRED WITH A FARM STRUCTURE ON THE NORTHERN END OF TOWN. THE
STRUCTURE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED WITH SHEET METAL BLOWN UP TO
ONE THIRD OF A MILE AWAY FROM THE SITE. MANY TREES LOST MAJOR
LIMBS AND SEVERAL WERE UPROOTED. SPORADIC DAMAGE TO ROOFS IN TERMS
OF SHINGLE DAMAGE/LOSS WAS OBSERVED. SOME MOBILE HOMES SUFFERED
ROOF LOSS. ONE MOBILE HOME WEST OF TOWN WAS ROLLED OVER. A FEW
CARPORTS OR DECK COVERS WERE BLOWN AWAY, ONE OF WHICH WAS BLOWN INTO
ANOTHER BUILDING. A BUILDING AT THE SEIBERT HIGH SCHOOL LOST A
PORTION OF THE ROOF. FINALLY, NOT ONLY WAS SIGNIFICANT WIND DAMAGE
OBSERVED BUT WIND-DRIVEN BASEBALL SIZED HAIL RESULTED IN MANY
SHATTERED WINDOWS, NUMEROUS SIGNIFICANT DENTS IN VEHICLES AND
TRAILERS, DESTRUCTION OF HOUSE SIDING, AND TREES/BUSHES STRIPPED
OF MORE THAN HALF OF THEIR LEAVES. CROPS WERE DECIMATED BY THE
WINDS AND HAIL. ONE INJURY REQUIRING A TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL
RESULTED FROM A SEMI BEING BLOWN OVER ON INTERSTATE 70 NEAR MILE
MARKER 410, JUST EAST OF SEIBERT.
