Atmospheric River Bringing Heavy Rain to Southern California and Heavy Snow to the Sierra Nevadas

A strong atmospheric river will continue heavy rain over southern California through Friday. The heaviest rainfall is ongoing today in the Los Angeles Basin. Flash and urban flooding is possible. Freezing rain is expected between 11 PM tonight and 11 AM Christmas Day as moisture makes its way in from the southwest. Up to one tenth of an inch of freezing rain is possible. Take it slow and allow extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you should you encounter icy conditions.
Areas of patchy fog have formed south of Fort Peck Lake along highway 200, along Interstate 94, and around Big Sheep Mountain. If traveling in these locations, slow down, use your low beam headlights, and keep plenty of distance between yourself and the car in front of you.
A wintry mix of light snow and freezing is expected to move through tonight through Christmas Day, and ice accumulations up to 0.05 inches are possible. Make sure to be careful on roads and sidewalks. Patchy fog will bring reduced visibility for traveling.
