Tracking Areas of Fire Weather, Severe Weather, and Winter Weather

Gusty winds and dry conditions will continue to bring fire weather concerns to the southern Plains through Friday. Severe thunderstorms including a few tornadoes, large hail and damaging wind gusts are expected across parts of the Midwest and lower Ohio Valley today. The forecast area will be dry through tonight under a ridge of high pressure. On Thanksgiving Day a storm system will move into the area from the west and is expected to bring significant snowfall to the mountains. Snowfall will begin around midday Thursday and is expected to continue into Friday morning with total accumulations of 3 to 6 inches in the high country of western Colorado. Another winter weather system is then expected to move into the area Friday evening and continue through Saturday with additional snowfall totals of 5 to 12 inches possible by Saturday evening in the higher mountain elevations of northwest and west-central Colorado.  Drier weather will return to the area on Sunday.
