...SEPTEMBER 2015 NARRATIVE FOR
CENTRAL NEBRASKA REGIONAL AIRPORT...

AT CENTRAL NEBRASKA REGIONAL AIRPORT...TEMPERATURES WERE WELL-ABOVE
NORMAL AND RAINFALL WAS MODESTLY ABOVE NORMAL DURING SEPTEMBER 2015.

TEMPERATURES: WARM WEATHER WAS THE "BIG STORY" DURING THE MONTH...AS
GRAND ISLAND RECORDED ITS 7TH-WARMEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD OUT OF 120
YEARS DATING BACK TO 1896. IT WAS THE WARMEST SEPTEMBER IN 17
YEARS...SINCE 1998. THE MEAN MONTHLY TEMPERATURE (BASED ON THE
AVERAGE OF DAILY HIGHS AND LOWS) WAS 70.7 DEGREES...AN IMPRESSIVE
5.6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE MAJORITY OF WEIGHT TOWARD THE WARM
MONTH WAS ATTRIBUTED TO LOW TEMPERATURES...WHICH AVERAGED A NOTABLE
6.8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. FOR THE MONTH AS A WHOLE...25 OF THE 30
DAYS FEATURED AN ABOVE NORMAL MEAN TEMPERATURE. BY FAR THE HOTTEST
STRETCH OF THE MONTH WAS RIGHT OFF THE BAT...AS AS EACH OF THE FIRST
SIX DAYS FEATURED HIGHS RANGING FROM 92-96 DEGREES. IT HAD BEEN 25
YEARS (SINCE 1990) THAT SIX CONSECUTIVE SEPTEMBER DAYS REACHED 90+
DEGREES. LOW TEMPERATURES NEVER DROPPED BELOW 47 DEGREES THROUGH THE
ENTIRE MONTH...WHICH HAD ONLY HAPPENED ONE TIME PRIOR (IN 1998). THE
MOST PRONOUNCED BRIEF STRETCH OF COOLER WEATHER OCCURRED ON THE 18TH-
19TH WHEN BOTH DAYS FEATURED HIGHS OF 68 DEGREES. THE MOST
PRONOUNCED DAY-TO-DAY CHANGE IN HIGH TEMPERATURES WAS A 17-DEGREE
DROP FROM 85 DEGREES ON THE 17TH TO 68 ON THE 18TH.

RAINFALL/DROUGHT: THE MONTHLY TOTAL OF 3.33 INCHES WAS 149 PERCENT
OF THE 30-YEAR NORMAL OF 2.23". ALMOST EXACTLY HALF OF THIS MONTHLY
TOTAL FELL LATE IN THE MONTH BETWEEN THE 23RD-25TH...INCLUDING 1.27"
ON THE 23RD. DESPITE THE SOMEWHAT WETTER-THAN-NORMAL MONTH...THE
U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR CONTINUED TO INDICATE CATEGORY D0 ABNORMALLY
DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS MOST OF HALL COUNTY AT MONTH'S END (CONSIDERED
TO BE ONE CATEGORY BETTER THAN "TRUE" DROUGHT).

SEVERE WEATHER/FLOODING/HIGH WINDS: THERE WERE A FEW STRONG TO
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITHIN THE GRAND ISLAND CITY LIMITS DURING THE
MONTH. THE MOST NOTEWORTHY EVENT OCCURRED ON THE EVENING OF THE 9TH
AS AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE SEVERE STORMS TRACKED ACROSS MAINLY FAR
NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE CITY...RESULTING IN REPORTS OF HAIL UP TO
AROUND QUARTER SIZE AND A MEASURED WIND GUST OF 54 MPH AT THE
AIRPORT. A FEW WEEKS LATER ON THE EVENING OF THE 23RD...A STORM
PRODUCED A SEVERE-CRITERIA WIND GUST OF 67 MPH AT THE AIRPORT.

...SEPTEMBER 2015 NARRATIVE
FOR HASTINGS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT...

AT HASTINGS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT...TEMPERATURES WERE WELL-ABOVE NORMAL
AND RAINFALL WAS WELL-BELOW NORMAL DURING SEPTEMBER 2015.

TEMPERATURES: WARM WEATHER WAS THE "BIG STORY" DURING THE MONTH...AS
HASTINGS RECORDED ITS 5TH-WARMEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD OUT OF 108
YEARS DATING BACK TO 1907. IT WAS THE WARMEST SEPTEMBER IN 75
YEARS...SINCE 1940! THE MEAN MONTHLY TEMPERATURE (BASED ON THE
AVERAGE OF DAILY HIGHS AND LOWS) WAS 71.8 DEGREES...AN IMPRESSIVE
6.2 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE MAJORITY OF WEIGHT TOWARD THE WARM
MONTH WAS ATTRIBUTED TO LOW TEMPERATURES...WHICH AVERAGED A NOTABLE
6.4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. FOR THE MONTH AS A WHOLE...26 OF THE 30
DAYS FEATURED AN ABOVE NORMAL MEAN TEMPERATURE. BY FAR THE HOTTEST

SIX DAYS FEATURED HIGHS RANGING FROM 91-97 DEGREES. IT HAD BEEN 25
YEARS (SINCE 1990) THAT SIX CONSECUTIVE SEPTEMBER DAYS REACHED 90+
DEGREES. LOW TEMPERATURES NEVER DROPPED BELOW 47 DEGREES THROUGH THE
ENTIRE MONTH...WHICH HAD ONLY HAPPENED DURING FOUR PREVIOUS

PERCENT OF THE 30-YEAR NORMAL OF 2.56". NEARLY HALF OF THIS MONTHLY
TOTAL FELL EARLY IN THE MONTH BETWEEN THE 9TH-10TH...INCLUDING 0.38"
ON THE 10TH. GIVEN THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH OF
BELOW NORMAL RAINFALL AT HASTINGS...IT SHOULD COME AS NO SURPRISE
THAT THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR CONTINUED TO INDICATE CATEGORY D0
ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS ALL OF ADAMS COUNTY AT MONTH'S END
(CONSIDERED TO BE ONE CATEGORY BETTER THAN "TRUE" DROUGHT).

SEVERE WEATHER/FLOODING/HIGH WINDS: THERE WERE A FEW HAIL STORMS

SOUTH SIDE OF TOWN. ON THE AFTERNOON OF THE 10TH...HAIL UP TO NICKEL
SIZE WAS REPORTED WITHIN THE CITY. THEN ON THE MORNING OF THE
