Long Track Tornado From Jewell/Mitchell/Republic Counties in Kansas hits Thayer County Nebraska

NWS damage survey crews have investigated the tornadic storm damage across Thayer County and have rated this storm an  EF1 in intensity.

During the evening of Thursday May 29th, a tornadic supercell thunderstorm moved from north central Kansas into south central Nebraska, producing a number of tornadoes.  After multiple significant tornado reports across Jewell, Mitchell, and Republic counties in Kansas, this tornadic Supercell storm entered Thayer county Nebraska near the town of Hubbell.

EF1 damage from this tornado was found around Hubbell with the local Grain Elevator sustaining major bin/silo damage on the south side of town.  The tornado continued on the ground to the northeast of Hubbell where EF1 damage was noted to a farmstead around 5 1/2 miles south to southeast of Gilead near the Thayer/Jefferson county line.   The tornadic storm then continued northeast into Jefferson County where the tornado finally lifted just northeast of Fairbury NE.
