Heat Continues for the East and South-Central U.S.; Strong to Severe Storms Across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast

The extremely dangerous heat wave continues across the East Coast and much of the South-Central U.S. today. Record high temperatures are expected for some areas especially across the Mid-Atlantic where extreme heat risk conditions reside. Randall, Kansas Tornado

The National Weather Service in Hastings conducted a damage survey of a tornado near Randall, Kansas on Sunday, June 20. The survey was an attempt to retrace the path of a tornadic supercell thunderstorm which occurred Saturday evening, June 19. The results of that survey follow.

Path Location: 3 to 5 miles east-northeast of Randall, KS
Path Length: 2.1 miles
Width: 350 yards
Time (approximate): 6:30 P.M. to 6:38 P.M.
Estimated Wind Speed: 100 mph (maximum)


The maximum rating of the tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale was an EF1 for top winds estimated at 100 mph. This rating was assigned based upon the damage observed.
