Overview

On 4 March 2023 a Colorado Low impacted the Northern Great Plains producing large accumulations of snow. Due to the combination of synoptic and mesoscale forcing, there were widespread snowfall accumulations exceeding 6 inches. During the 3 day event, peak winds exceeded 50 mph in some areas, exceeding blizzard criteria for both wind speed and visibility reductions. Major roadways were deemed impossible to travel by local and state officials. On 6 March 2023 the effects of the Colorado Low ended early morning as the system continued to move east towards Ontario, Canada.
