Scattered Severe Storms to Continue Over the Central and Southern Plains this Weekend; Snow in the Sierra Nevada

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will persist over the central to southern High Plains this weekend with a severe weather and flash flooding threat. A late season storm will bring low elevation rain and high elevation snow to portions of California, Nevada and Oregon through the weekend. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect for much of the area. Blowing Dust Advisories are likely to follow later today. Dust Storm Warnings will be issued as conditions warrant on Sunday. High Wind Warning SUNDAY 11 AM - 8 PM: Sustained winds: SW 30 to 40 MPH Peak gusts: Up to 60 MPH Wind Advisory SUNDAY 11 AM - 8 PM: Sustained winds: SW 25 to 35 MPH Peak gusts: Up to 50 MPH Actions to take: - Secure loose objects - Difficult driving for high-profile vehicles - Damage to trees and power lines
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Sunday between 11 AM and 9 PM MDT due to expected Critical to EXTREME Fire Weather Conditions. Winds: Southwest 30-40 mph, Gusts to 60 MPH Relative Humidity: 4 to 8% Lowlands, 8 to 12% Mountains (7500’+) Fuels (Vegetation): Critically Dry! - Avoid open flames or sparks - Keep vehicles off dry grass - Properly discard cigarettes
Sunday's winds and low humidity will lead to critical to EXTREME fire weather conditions across the area. Red Flag Warnings are in effect. While we’ve seen stronger winds this season, these are some the of the lowest RH values (8-12%) we’ve seen in the Sacramento mountains (7500+) during a high wind event this year.
