Severe Thunderstorms in the East This Evening; Excessive Heat Lingers in the Southern U.S.

Scattered to numerous damaging wind gusts and isolated flash flooding is likely from severe thunderstorms across parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States into this evening. Large hail and damaging winds should also occur from southern Montana into western North Dakota. A strong heat wave will hit the area this week with the highest impacts in Mendocino and Lake Counties. Very hot day time temperatures combined with little overnight relief will create Major HeatRisk. This puts all people at risk for heat related illness without adequate cooling and hydration. Major HeatRisk will spread northward through the week.
KHBX radar serving northwest California is down for scheduled maintenance until next Tuesday, July 2nd. In the meantime, check out Sacramento (KDAX), Beale AFB (KBBX), and Medford (KMAX) radars for partial coverage of northwest California.
All eyes continue to be focused on the very high temperatures forecast this week. The forecast has held firm with many interior locations likely to see near record breaking temperatures this Wednesday. Heat will continue all through the week. Take extra care to stay cool and hydrated.
Marine weather will build sharply tomorrow to gale force winds and hazardous steep seas tomorrow (7/1) afternoon through Wednesday (7/3) evening. Sustained winds up to 35kt and sig. sea heights of 16ft can be expected for this timeframe.
