PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
PRELIMINARY SNOWFALL TOTALS FOR APRIL 23-25 2005
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DETROIT/PONTIAC MI
1000 AM EDT MON APR 25 2005

NEAR HISTORIC SNOWFALL DID FALL ACROSS SOUTHEAST LOWER MICHIGAN.
CONSIDERABLE MELTING OCCURRED DUE TO WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES AND
TEMPERATURES AT OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING. ALSO THIS HEAVY WET
SNOW HAS SETTLED WITH THE LENGTH OF THE SNOW EVENT. FINALLY WITH
THE STRONG WINDS...THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING
SNOW...ESPECIALLY IN THE THUMB WHERE DRIFTS WERE AS HIGH AS
3 TO 4 FEET. ALL OF THESE FACTORS HAVE RESULTED IN VERY DIFFICULT
SNOW MEASUREMENTS FOR OUR SPOTTERS. NOAA NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
THANKS ALL OF OUR SPOTTERS FOR THESE REPORTS.

THESE PRELIMINARY TOTALS AND EXPERIMENTAL GRAPHIC ARE AVAILABLE
