Update (07/18/2019): Due to several rounds of precipitation over the past few days, maintenance progress has been delayed. We apologize for any additional inconvenience during this outage. The new estimated restoration date is Friday 07/19/2019.

The weather radar operated by the National Weather Service Forecast Office Detroit/Pontiac in White Lake Michigan will be
down this week for the final phase of maintenance on the dome enclosure. The system will be down from Monday July 15th
through Thursday the 18th.

During the outage, alternate radar coverage will be available from the adjacent sites at NWS Gaylord, Grand Rapids, North
Webster, and Cleveland. Coverage will also be available from the TDWR system at Detroit Metro Airport.

Damaged exterior panels were replaced in the first phase of maintenance and now the dome will be washed, sealed, and
repainted to complete the project.

Maintaining a clean, structurally sound, and watertight dome enclosure is essential to WSR-88D daily operating efficiency
and long-term reliability.

This work is part of a nationwide maintenance program managed by the NWS Radar Operations Center, a tri-agency office
funded by the NOAA National Weather Service, the United States Air Force, and the Federal Aviation Administration to
support the nationwide network of WSR-88D Doppler radar systems.
