Public Information Statement National Weather Service Duluth MN 1224 PM CDT Fri Apr 25 2025 ...SOFTWARE UPGRADE WILL IMPACT NOAA WEATHER RADIO BROADCASTS ACROSS THE NORTHLAND NEXT WEEK... The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Duluth, MN will be conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System from 8:00 AM Tuesday April 29th through the afternoon of Thursday May 1st. The NWS uses this computer system to display and integrate weather and water information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather and water warnings, to the public. During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted by back-up offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota and La Crosse, Wisconsin to minimize any potential interruption to services. No impacts to our core services of forecast products and weather watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period. The KDLH WSR-88D Radar will continue to operate and disseminate radar data as normal. However, limited impacts will occur to the following services: NOAA Weather Transmitters: All NOAA Weather Radio transmitters served by the National Weather Service in Duluth across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will be off air through the time of the install. This includes the following transmitters in Minnesota: KIG64 Duluth, KXI43 Grand Marais, KXI44 Ely, KXI45 Gun Flint Lake, KZZ29 Coleraine, KZZ44 Elephant Lake, KZZ45 Virginia, KZZ84 Aitkin, WNG630 Finland, WNG678 Pine City, WXJ64 Leader, and WXK45 International Falls. This also includes the following transmitters in Wisconsin: KZZ78 Ashland, KZZ79 Spooner, and WXM91 Park Falls. The forecast office in Duluth will remain open and staffed throughout this software outage period for phone calls and to provide weather support to partners.
