Due to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the AWIPS II source code and binaries (RPMs) are freely available to the public.
Everyone is free to download, modify, distribute, or share AWIPS II in any form (original or modified).
Developers in need of the source code to create new tools and enhancements for the official NWS AWIPS platform can download the NWS version of AWIPS.
Some of this software is proprietary. Visit the source code FAQ page for an explanation of which portions of the AWIPS software can be accessed by the public.
The Office of Central Processing (OCP) and the AWIPS Program Office (APO) only provides technical support to NWS forecasters and NOAA partners.
Students and other external agencies that wish to learn about AWIPS and obtain training for personal or educational use, please refer to the Unidata version of AWIPS.
Unidata provides a modified version of the NWS AWIPS software that is tailored for university usage. Unidata AWIPS contains no proprietary content, and is therefore not subject to export and distribution controls.
NWS Official version of AWIPS One-Stop site for all publicly available AWIPS II-related materials. This page includes basic documentation but due to the proprietary nature of our software, some documents may be redacted. In addition, no installation support will be provided at this time.
Unidata AWIPS download page users can obtain installation support, information on user workshops, and will answer any general user questions about this version of the software.
