Rare Southern U.S. Winter Storm; Dangerous Cold Weather For Much of the Eastern U.S.; Critical Fire Weather for Southern California

A rare winter storm impacting the Southern U.S. will move offshore Wednesday morning. Behind the storm, arctic air will continue encompassing the eastern two-thirds of the Nation with only a slow return to normal temperatures expected by the end of the week. A Freeze Warning is in effect from 6 PM Tonight until 11 am Wednesday as low temperatures will fall to as low as 20°F. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect through 9 AM Wednesday for wind chills as low as 16°F
A small craft advisory is in effect through 9 AM Wednesday morning for the offshore waters, and until the nearshore waters through Midnight. Winds will be north at 15-25 knots with gusts to 30 knots. Waves 7-12 feet in the offshore waters, and 6-9 feet in the nearshore waters.
Expect clear skies and light winds to allow temperatures to plummet into the teens and 20s most areas tonight. Temperatures could be below freezing for over 15 hours tonight! Be sure to take care of your Pets, Plants and Pipes!
Any moisture remaining on the roads tonight can refreeze causing slick roads. This is something we call black ice. It's difficult to see at night but can cause dangerous driving conditions.
