Independence Day Weather at Bangor and Caribou

 

Since weather records began in Bangor in 1925 the hottest Independence Day was in 1949 with a high of 99F.  The lowest temperature ever observed on Independence Day was 43F in 1929.  The lowest high temperature ever observed was 56F in 1992.  The average high and low are 78F and 57F. 

What are the chances of having rain on Independence Day?  For the purposes of this write-up we will define rain as days having at least one hundredth of an inch (0.01”).  Over the years, measurable rain has been observed on one third of the time (33 percent) on Independence Day.  The wettest Independence Day was in 1936 when 74 hundredths (0.74”) was observed. 

At Caribou, where weather records began in 1939, the hottest Independence Day was in 1983 when the high was 92F.  This was the only year with a high temperature that was 90 degrees or warmer.  The lowest temperature of 39F was observed in 1982.  The lowest high temperature of 58F occurred in 1962.  The average high and low are 75F and 54F. 

Since 1939, measurable rain has been observed 45 percent of the time at Caribou.  The wettest Independence Day was in 2011 when 2.58 inches of rain was observed in just a couple of hours during heavy afternoon thunderstorms.
