The average temperature at Columbia Metropolitan Airport for
September 2021 was 74.4 degrees or 1.1 degrees below the monthly
normal of 75.5 degrees.

.Augusta GA Average Temperatures...

The average temperature at Augusta Regional Bush Field for September
2021 was 75.1 degrees or 1.3 below the monthly normal of 76.4
degrees.

.Columbia Rainfall...

Columbia Metro Airport received 4.09 inches of rainfall during
September, 0.18 inches above the monthly normal of 3.91 inches.

.Augusta Rainfall...

Augusta Bush Field received 6.65 inches of rainfall during
September, 3.05 inches above the normal monthly value of 3.60
inches.

This broke the previous record for the date of 1.83 inches

Significant Weather Events for September 2021...


September 8th...A weak frontal boundary and upper level trough moved
across the region. This produced a couple strong to severe
thunderstorms across Lancaster county. The storms produced dime to
quarter size hail near the town of Elgin.

September 20th...A stalled frontal boundary across the area combined
with plenty of atmospheric moisture produced some slow moving
showers and thunderstorms. These showers and storms produced locally
heavy rainfall across portions of the City of Columbia. A vehicle
was stranded in water that was 2 to 3 feet deep and the occupants
needed to be rescued by the fire department.

September 22nd...A few strong to severe thunderstorms developed
ahead of a cold front. The storms downed a tree that took down a
power line in Kershaw County just east of the town of Elgin.

Hydrology/River Stages...

There was no river flooding during the month of September.

Lake Murray Water Temperatures (near surface) at the
intake towers for September:

Warmest...85.3 F on the 1st.
Coolest...77.9 F on the 25th and 26th.

August Peak Wind Gust at the ASOS Sites and Lake Wind Sites:

Columbia Metro Airport (CAE).........52 mph on the 15th
Columbia Hamilton-Owens Field (CUB)..34 mph on the 22nd
Augusta Bush Field (AGS).............29 mph on the 22nd
Augusta Daniel Field (DNL)...........28 mph on the 29th
Orangeburg County Airport (OGB)......26 mph on the 1st.


The 3-Month Climate Outlook
...(October/November/December)...

The outlook calls for about a 40 to 50 percent chance of above
normal temperatures with a 33 to 50 percent chance of below
normal precipitation.

ENSO (EL NINO SOUTHERN OSCILLATION)...

...La Nina Watch... ENSO neutral conditions continue. Equatorial sea
surfaces temperatures are below normal across the central and east-
central Pacific Ocean. A transition from ENSO-Neutral is favored in
the next couple of months, with a 70 to 80 percent chance of La Nina
during the 2021 - 2022 Northern Hemisphere winter.
