Rainfall was at or above normal across the Carolinas and east- central Georgia during the month of April. At the beginning of April streamflows remained higher than normal from a heavy rainfall event during the last week of March. There were two river flood events during the month. Heavy rain fell across the area river basins on the 7th and 8th of April. Rainfall amounts ranged from 2 to 3 inches with some local amounts above 5 inches across Aiken County. The second event occurred on the 26th and 27th of April. The heaviest rain fell in the Upstate where amounts from 3 to 5 inches were common. Lower amounts fell across the Midlands and CSRA with amounts from 1 to 2 inches. There was a localized minor flood event along the N. Fork of the Edisto River on the 13th and 14th. Locally heavy rainfall pushed the already bankfull river just above flood stage (8.0 feet) on the 14th. Here are some of the river crest that occurred with the early April Event and the late April Event. Early April River Flooding Event: Stevens Creek at Modoc crested at 20.53 feet with moderate flooding on the morning of the 9th. Flood Stage is 19.0 feet. Great Pee Dee River at Cheraw crested at 36.16 feet just below moderate flooding during the early morning hours of the 10th. Flood Stage is 30.0 feet. Congaree River at Carolina Eastman crested at 120.40 with moderate flooding during the late afternoon hours of the 10th. Flood Stage is 115.0 feet. Congaree River at the Congaree NP-Gadsden crested at 17.14 feet with minor flooding during the early morning hours of the 11th. Flood Stage is 15.0 feet. Saluda River at Chappells crested at 15.24 feet on the midday hours of the 10th with minor flooding. Flood Stage is 14.0 feet. North Fork of the Edisto River crested at 8.40 feet during the evening hours of the 14th with minor flooding. Flood Stage is 8.0 feet. Late April River Flooding Event: Saluda River at Chappells crested at 18.12 feet on the afternoon of the 29th with minor flooding. Flood Stage is 14.0 feet. Enoree River at Whitmire crested at 28.0 feet during the late evening of the 29th with moderate flooding. Flood Stage is 25.0 feet. Congaree River at Columbia crested at 19.91 feet during the morning of the 30th with minor flooding. Flood Stage is 19.0 feet. This is the first time the Congaree River at Columbia has reached flood stage since November 2020. Congaree River at Carolina Eastman crested at 123.10 feet during the afternoon of the 30th in moderate flooding. Flood Stage is 115.0 feet. Congaree River at the Congaree NP-Gadsden crested at 17.69 feet during the early morning hours of May 1st just below moderate flooding. Flood Stage is 15.0 feet.
