Significant Weather Events for November 2024:

November 6th through 7th - A deep trough across the western
half of the U.S. set up a deep southwest plume of moisture
across the Carolinas and Georgia. The deep moisture plume
tapped some of the tropical moisture associated with Hurricane
Rafael just north of the western tip of Cuba. This moisture
interacted with a frontal boundary that was stalled just west
of the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area. This produced
historic flooding along the Edisto River Basin. Rainfall
amounts ranged from 6 to 14 inches across Aiken, Bamberg,
Barnwell, Calhoun, Lexington, Orangeburg and Richland counties.
The extensive flash flooding and river flooding caused 10 state
regulated dams across Orangeburg County to fail. There were
also over 170 roadways impacted by the heavy rainfall, dam
failures and flooding. Flooding within the Edisto River basin
lasted for several days to weeks in the lower portion of the
basin.

The North Fork of the Edisto River at Orangeburg (ORBS1) crested
at 15.34 feet on the late evening of the 7th. This was a new
record crest for this location. The previous record was 14.70
feet on September 1st, 1928. Flood stage is 8.0 feet.

The North Fork of the Edisto River at North (NFES1)crested at
12.26 feet on the morning of the 7th.

The South Fork of the Edisto River below Monetta (SFAS1) crested
at 6.22 feet on the afternoon of the 7th.

The South Fork of the Edisto River above Springfield (SAFS1)
crested at 14.20 feet during the early morning of the 9th.

The South Fork of the Edisto River at Denmark (DENS1) crested
at 9.83 feet just after midnight on the 8th. Flood Stage is 11.0
feet.

The South Fork of the Edisto near Bamberg (BMBRS1) crested at
15.30 feet during the late evening hours of the 6th.

The Edisto River near Branchville (EBRS1) crested at 14.09 feet
on the late evening of the 8th.

Sunnyside Canal in Orangeburg (SUNS1) crested at 6.97 feet just
after midnight on the 8th. This was due to back-water effects
from the N. Fork of the Edisto River.

The Little Salkehatchie River below Denmark (SRDS1) crested at
10.38 feet during the late evening of the 7th.

The Salkehatchie River at SC Hwy. 64 near Barnwell (SRBS1)
crested at 9.88 feet just after midnight on the 8th.

Cedar Creek at the Congaree National Park (CCKS1) crested at 8.61
feet during the early morning hours of the 8th. Flood Stage is
8.0 feet.

Here are some rainfall totals from the event:

Area since Wednesday Morning through Thursday Morning...

and Richland Counties Received more than 8 inches of Rainfall...
