A Pacific storm and atmospheric river will impact the Pacific Northwest states and northern Rockies this weekend, bringing locally heavy low elevations rain and heavy high elevation snow in the mountains. The information provided below is brought to you by the NWS office in Buffalo, NY.  All of these fantastic images have been accessed from the Naval Research Laboratory, MODIS Today, or NOAA CoastWatch.

The page tracks the seasonal development of ice cover on the eastern Great Lakes.  Meteorologists monitor ice conditions for several reason, most importantly to determine the potential contribution from the open waters of the Great Lakes for lake effect snow storms.
