Snow Across the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast; Unsettled Weather in the West

Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. Columbus Day is a federal holiday marking the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas. Columbus Day for many years was celebrated on October 12th, but the holiday became the second Monday in October in 1971. Columbus Day can occur between the 8th and 14th of October. The highest temperature recorded on Columbus Day was 85F on October 13, 1975. The lowest temperature recorded on Columbus Day is 29F degrees set on October 14, 1991. The high temperature averages 63F degrees and the low 45F degrees on Columbus Day.

On Columbus Day of 2017 remnants from Tropical System Nate passed across Western New York, bringing a holiday precipitation record 2.39 inches of rain to Rochester.
