JULY 7 1965 There was an average number of thunderstorms during the afternoon, but some reached severe levels and one produced hail and small tornadoes. A line of thunderstorms produced tornado clouds at Curriers, Wyoming county and Williamsville and Akron in Erie county. Hail was reported in Cattaraugus county. Damage was estimated at several thousand dollars.
A State of Emergency was declared in Allegany state park during the evening as torrential rains caused flash flooding in some camping areas. Forty families were stranded with their vehicles in flood waters in the red house section. Damage in the park was estimated at one hundred thousand dollars. Some roads were washed out in Cattaraugus, Allegany and Steuben counties the same night. 1989 Afternoon and evening thunderstorms developed in unstable air across western and northern New York. Trees and wires were downed causing scattered power outages. Wind damage was reported in Jefferson county—Sacketts Harbor, Adams Center, and Hounsfield; Erie county—Buffalo; and Allegany county—Angelica and Belmont. In East Rodman a utility pole fell on a car containing four occupants. One inch hail was reported in North Tonawanda. 1991 7th-8th…Nocturnal thunderstorms on two consecutive nights produced damaging winds. The strong winds downed trees and power lines causing scattered power outages in parts of Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Wyoming counties. Some homes and property were damaged by downed tree limbs. Unusually vivid and continuous lightning with the storms reportedly sparked six house fires. The thunderstorms dropped from an inch and a quarter to two and a quarter inches of much needed rain resulting in some reports of localized flooding. 1999 Severe thunderstorms crossed the north country during the evening hours. The thunderstorms produced damaging downburst winds. The Sheriffs of Jefferson and Lewis counties reported downed trees and power lines. In Adams, a motorist and her 8-year-old son were uninjured when a tree limb landed on their car, shattering the back window. 2001 Thunderstorms moved across the Niagara Frontier during the evening hours. The thunderstorms produced damaging winds which downed trees and power lines. Power outages were reported in Wilson and Lewiston, Niagara county. In Olean, a large tree was blown down and crushed an auto parked nearby.
