Snow Across the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast; Unsettled Weather in the West

Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. Veterans Day, observed on November 11th became a US holiday in 1954, emerging from Armistice Day which was observed also on November 11th. The highest temperature recorded on Veterans Day is 70F degrees in 2012. The lowest the mercury has fallen to on Veterans Day is 19F in 1957 and 2017. The high temperature averages 50F degrees and the low 36F degrees on Veterans Day. An early season arctic air mass sent temperatures tumbling to record low levels for Veterans Day in 2017, with the thermometer falling to 19°F. On Veterans Day 2022 a widespread soaking rain fell, with amounts between 1.50 and 3.00 inches across Western New York, including a record 1.56" of precipitation at the Buffalo airport. Due to the dry autumn, area creeks and rivers remained within their banks.
