Widespread Snow Today and Tonight

Snow will generally arrive between 9AM and 12PM today, bringing accumulations between 3 and 7 inches, except between 1 and 3 inches in some of the broad valleys. The heaviest snow will fall between 9AM and 4PM. Snow will mostly taper off by late evening, but accumulating snow will continue through Thursday night across the higher terrain. Snow is expected to develop between 9 AM and Noon Today. The heaviest snowfall rates occur between 10 AM and 4 PM. Snowfall amounts range from 1 to 5 inches with localized higher amounts in the mountains. Hazardous travel is likely late this morning through this evening’s commute.
A mid-winter weather pattern early this season has supported a healthy snowpack, especially in our mountains. Here's a picture of the Mount Mansfield snow stake and data comparing this year's depth to other years with excellent starts to the season in 1981 and 2018.
NOAA Weather Radio station WXM-44, transmitting from Mt. Ascutney, Vermont, on frequency 162.475 MHz is non-operational at this time. NWS technicians have diagnosed the problem but repairs will likely not be able to occur for quite some time due to circumstances beyond our control. Therefore, the time of return to service is currently unknown.
