Prolonged Atmospheric River in the Northwest; Snow in the North-Central US

A prolonged atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall which may lead to widespread urban and river flooding, heavy mountain snow, along with gusty winds to the Pacific Northwest into the northern Rockies through much of the week. Temperatures currently range from near zero to -20 degrees below zero across our region. Temperatures will warm quickly into the upper teens to mid 20s this afternoon, but gusty south winds will keep wind chill values below 10F in many spots.
A mid-winter weather pattern early this season has supported a healthy snowpack, especially in our mountains. Here's a picture of the Mount Mansfield snow stake and data comparing this year's depth to other years with excellent starts to the season in 1981 and 2018.
NOAA Weather Radio station WXM-44, transmitting from Mt. Ascutney, Vermont, on frequency 162.475 MHz is non-operational at this time. NWS technicians have diagnosed the problem but repairs will likely not be able to occur for quite some time due to circumstances beyond our control. Therefore, the time of return to service is currently unknown.
