SEVERAL DAYS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AFFECTED DEEP SOUTH TEXAS THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST AS AN UNSEASONABLE WEATHER PATTERN SET UP ACROSS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVED OUT OF THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS AND INTO THE STATE OF TEXAS...SENDING PIECES OF ATMOSPHERIC ENERGY INTO THE LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY. THIS...COMBINED WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF MOISTURE IN THE AREA...ALLOWED MANY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO PRODUCE HEAVY AMOUNTS OF RAINFALL IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. MAJOR FLASH FLOODING OCCURRED IN SOUTHWESTERN STARR COUNTY. THE FOLLOWING ARE PRELIMINARY REPORTED RAINFALL TOTALS FROM AUGUST 13TH THROUGH 8 AM THIS MORNING.
