Lower Scan Implemented At KMBX (Minot North Dakota WSR-88D)

Areas of Heavy Snow, Gusty Winds, and Critical Fire Weather in the West; Gusty Winds in the East

A storm system will continue to bring areas of heavy snow, gusty to high winds, and critical fire weather from the Sierras through the central and southern Plains through Friday. On Wednesday, July 31, 2019 technicians upgraded the software at the Doppler Radar site located near Minot. This upgrade adds a lower surveillance scan at 0.3 degrees. Previously the lowest scan had been 0.5 degrees. The change will improve weather radar coverage across the entire area served by this radar. This was already evidenced by National Weather Service Forecasters during the severe weather that occurred in the northern part of the state on Thursday.
