On Friday, November 20th at 5:00 PM AKST, the local electric company that supplies power to the James M. Fitzgerald Federal Building in Anchorage, that houses the National Weather Service Alaska Region HQ, will perform scheduled maintenance, requiring an electrical outage to the building. This maintenance is expected to end on Monday, November 23rd at 6:00 AM AKST.

The National Weather Service Alaska Region may experience a disruption in services that enables users to view or download products via the Internet; however, we are taking measures to minimize these impacts. We are activating a contingency plan to redirect customers to the national web farm located at https://www.weather.gov for individual city forecast pages and products, and we will aggressively monitor all of our systems during the maintenance period

All NWS systems at our forecast offices, will be operating normally and there will be many critical dissemination systems that won’t be affected, such as NOAAport/Satellite Broadcast Network and NOAA Weather Wire Service (NWWS). These systems do not rely on internet connectivity to operate or deliver products

Most NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) sites will be unaffected; however 8 NWR locations in Alaska rely on internet connectivity and may not be broadcasting during these times. The locations are: Barrow, Bethel, Cold Bay, Dutch Harbor, Nome, Saint Paul, Valdez, and Yakutat

Any Questions related to this maintenance may be directed to Angel Corona at angel.corona@noaa.gov or 907-223-7741
