On the afternoon of Thursday, June 27, 2013 storms developed along a cold front as the front moved south through Kansas and the Oklahoma and northern Texas Panhandles. Some of these storms across the Panhandles produced very strong winds, including a 94 mph gust at Borger, TX, a 64 mph gust near Slapout, OK, and a 70 mph gust near Amarillo.
The storm near Borger produced a damaging downburst just before 10 PM CDT that resulted in multiple reports of damage in the northwestern corner of the city. A large roof was blown off a metal building, a window was blown out of a home, three airport hangar doors were blown in, a metal flag pole was bent to a 45 degree angle, and 3 utility poles were snapped.
