Powerful Pacific System Impacting the West; First Significant Snow for Portions of the East

Power Pacific system will continue to bring significant impacts for Pacific Northwest into northern California the remainder of the week. Dangerous coastal affects, heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and higher elevation mountain snow continues. Meanwhile, a storm across the east is set to bring the first accumulating snow to many higher elevations of the Catskills into the central Appalachians. Read More >

February 21, 2013 Winter Storm

Another February winter storm impacted the Panhandles as a vigorous upper-level low pressure center moved across the area.  Many areas saw a mixture of rain, sleet, and snow during the early morning hours.  Once the atmosphere cooled, most of the precipitation transitioned to all snow by daybreak.  A few rumbles of thunder also occurred with the various precipitation types -- an indication of the strength of this storm system.  By the time the snow ended by Thursday afternoon, most of the Panhandles had received at least some snow.  The highest totals were found across the northern and northeastern part of the Panhandles, including a 13-inch total 15 miles northeast of Ware, TX in Dallam County.  Despite February being one of the driest months during the calendar year, this storm system also brought beneficial moisture to most areas.  Amarillo, TX received 0.51 inches; Hooker, OK received 0.53 inches; and Clarendon, TX received 1.08 inches.
