Heavy Rainfall in South Texas; Pacific Storm Moves into the Pacific Northwest

Thunderstorms may bring heavy to excessive rainfall and the potential for flooding over South Texas late Wednesday through Friday. A Moderate Risk (level 3 of 4) of excessive rainfall has been issued for portions of South Texas. NWS Albany, NY recognizes that we have a special mission responsibility to our core partners, including the emergency management community and other local, state and federal government agencies, to provide Impact-Based Decision Support Services/Weather Support leading up to, during and following high-impact events.  

 

Our Decision Support Services/Weather Support begin with severe weather preparedness and education through outreach activities and internal and external training and exercises.  This includes involvement in local, state and federal exercises and simulations. 

 

When public safety in the event of hazardous weather is a concern, NWS Albany, NY personnel will provide Decision Support Services/Weather Support at the request of Emergency Management and government core partners

 

This support can include:

  • Direct, interactive support to ensure safety and protection of property, provided on-site or remotely. 

  • Coordination activities supporting high impact events.  This can include pre-decision conference calls with the primary purpose of enhancing weather situational awareness..

  • Assistance with the routine provision of NWS data and products including alerts of hazardous weather conditions that are provided uniformly to everyone.
