Heavy Rainfall in South Texas; Pacific Storm Moves into the Pacific Northwest

Thunderstorms may bring heavy to excessive rainfall and the potential for flooding over South Texas late Wednesday through Friday. A Moderate Risk (level 3 of 4) of excessive rainfall has been issued for portions of South Texas. Overview

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms ahead of an approaching cold front resulted in widespread wind damage during the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. A NWS Storm Survey concluded that a microburst occurred near Fort Miller in Washington County that resulted in an injury. A NWS Storm Survey also concluded an area of straight line wind damage with estimated wind speeds of 85 mph occurred across the Town of Lenox. There was one fatality reported just south of Lenox (Berkshire County) due to a large tree falling onto a pickup truck.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, a supercell thunderstorm resulted in multiple severe wind damage reports over Ulster and Dutchess Counties. Additionally, the supercell resulted in a tornado and macroburst in Ulster County near Kingston, NY. The Mayor announced a Local State of Emergency (restricting all un-necessary travel in and around Kingston) after thunderstorms produced extensive tree damage in the area. At one point, over 6,000 residents were without power in the city of Kingston.
