About the NWS
National Program
As part of our efforts to build a Weather-Ready Nation, the National Weather Service (NWS) creates safety messages that cover weather hazards that impact the public, such as flooding, tornadoes, lightning, heat, snow, and more. The content of these messages focuses on important information to help every person in every community stay safe. We also demystify the differences between the many Watches, Warnings, and Advisories the NWS issues, and explain the science behind weather, water, and climate phenomena.
We use infographics, social media posts, and videos to communicate these important messages on the web and on social media. NWS national and local social media accounts post these messages every day, based on the current weather hazards impacting our nation and local areas. In addition, text versions of these messages can be found in official NWS products such as Watches, Warnings, and Advisories, ensuring the public knows what action to take when faced with hazardous conditions.
The NWS is dedicated to building a Weather-Ready Nation, but we cannot do it alone! The NWS Safety Websites and graphics/social media posts in the NWS Seasonal Safety Campaigns are created for you to use and share. Please help us prepare your community by sharing safety and preparedness messages with your friends, family, and colleagues!
