Severe Thunderstorms in the East Sunday; Excessive Heat Lingers in the Southern U.S. and Returning to California

Scattered damaging winds from severe thunderstorms will be possible across parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States Sunday. Excessive heat will continue over the southern U.S. Sunday before another round of heat arrives Monday through the central and southern U.S. spreading into the East by Independence Day. A slight risk for severe weather exists for parts of northeast Montana for tonight, especially along and south of the Missouri River. Scattered thunderstorms will form over central Montana this afternoon and move east into eastern Montana after 5 pm this afternoon. Storms could continue into the early morning hours on Monday. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible along with locally heavy rain. Please monitor the latest forecast for updates and have a way to get the latest watches and warnings that may be issued. When thunder roars, go indoors and be prepared to seek shelter.
Clouds will increase today ahead of a cold front this evening that will bring thunderstorms with a few severe storms possible There will be scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms every day between Monday and the 4th of July. Most of the showers and thunderstorms will be in the afternoon and evening each day.
