	*On this Day in Weather History...* In 1962, a colossal wind storm known as the Columbus Day Big Blow ripped through the Pacific Northwest with sustained winds reaching 75 mph and gusts around 100 mph. Perhaps the most damaging windstorm ever to occur west of the Cascades this event destroyed an estimated 3.5 billion board feet of timber, claimed 48 lives, and caused $210 million damage.
	WICHITA SETS SEVERAL RAINFALL RECORDS (10/2/2008) Thanks to the colossal heavy rain event of September 12th, Wichita set several rainfall records. Among them were: Greatest 24-hour total, greatest calendar day total and wettest September. (Archive of all Weather Stories)
