National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

If the feedback from key emergency management officials, broadcasters, the SECC and local government officials is positive, then the NWS will next create a public-facing web page and use plain language to present the proposal to the public. We will open a public comment period.

During this time, we encourage all NWS partners and stakeholders to refer others to this page, to increase public understanding and awareness of the proposal and the benefits of the proposal.

At the end of the public comment period, if there is agreement from the public, emergency managers, government officials, broadcasters, the State and Local Emergency Communications Committees, etc., the NWS will work with partners and stakeholders to establish an effective change date. An extensive public education and awareness campaign will precede and follow the change date. The NWS will issue an official Service Change Notice. We hope the broadcast community will consider informing the public through the use of news stories, public service announcements, etc.
