November 2018 Climate Review: Well below normal temperatures plagued the region almost the entire month. All 3 official climate stations finished in the Top 10 Coldest November’s on record, as temperatures were around 6 degrees below normal. All but 9 days registered below normal temperatures in Paducah, and it was the coldest November since 2014. Measurable snow fell on 3 straight days from the 13th through the 15th in Paducah, with a total of 2.3” falling making it the 3rd snowiest November on record. On average, our first measurable snow doesn’t occur until December 22nd in Paducah. Some warmer weather greeted us around the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which was a nice change compared to most of the month.

Precipitation was varied across the region. Areas from the bootheel of Missouri, across much of western Kentucky, and into eastern portions of southwest Indiana were either near normal or wetter than normal for the month. The wettest locations tended to be closer to the TN border in western KY. Most of southeast Missouri into southern Illinois and closer to the Wabash River in Indiana were drier than normal. Most of the region did experience a much earlier than normal snowfall, with amounts from the November 14th - 15th event as high as 3 to almost 5 inches in portions of southern Illinois. There was also a good amount of freezing rain with that event in the Pennyrile region of west Kentucky, which resulted in around a quarter inch of ice accumulation.
