Overview

A warm front lifted north across the region, providing the necessary lift for thunderstorms to ignite in a warm, moist, unstable airmass. Due to a strong cap (warm air aloft about 10,000 feet up), storms didn't take off until the evening into the overnight hours. With the orientation of the boundary parallel to the mid level wind flow, the stage was set for training of thunderstorms over the same areas of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and southwest Indiana. Flash flooding and hail were the most common reports from this event.
