...The 2024 Frost-Freeze Program Has Ended for a Portion of the
Area...

The 2024 Frost-Freeze Program for Interior Southern Connecticut, the
Lower Hudson Valley, and Interior Northeastern New Jersey has ended,
as November 1 marks 10 days after the median date of the first fall
freeze. This means that frost and freeze headlines will no longer be
issued for this region for the remainder of the 2024 season. The
Frost and Freeze Program will resume with the 2025 growing season.

Headlines will no longer be issued for the following zones:

in Connecticut: Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern
Middlesex, Northern New London

in New York: Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Northern Westchester

in New Jersey: Passaic, Western Bergen, Western Essex, Western Union

The New York City National Weather Service Office (WFO OKX) is
currently participating in an experiment that redefines the end of
the local Frost-Freeze Program to simplify customer usability
through a more streamlined process. Frost-Freeze headlines will be
issued for threats of a frost or freeze during the growing
season, up to the 75th-90th percentile of the median first fall
freeze. This is basically 10 days after the median first fall
freeze, as established by using 30-year temperature averages.

The Frost-Freeze program of the National Weather Service is
designed to alert growers and gardiners of the potential of a
damaging frost or freeze for a given area during the
climatologically defined growing season. This allows people to
take necessary preventative measures to protect plants and crops
against potential damaging temperatures.

These are the dates when Frost Advisories or Freeze Warnings will no
longer be issued for the 2024 growing season across the New York
City National Weather Service forecast area:

November 1: Interior Southern Connecticut, the Lower Hudson Valley,
Interior Northeastern New Jersey

November 11: Suffolk, Northern Nassau, Southern Westchester, Coastal
Connecticut, Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, Eastern Union

November 21: New York City, Southern Nassau, Hudson
