NWS St. Louis to Conduct a Social Media Tornado Drill
12 Noon, Saturday, April 30, 2016
America's PreparAthon: National PrepareAthon Day
The National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis will conduct a Social Media Tornado Drill at 12 Noon, Saturday, April 30, 2016. The tornado drill message will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. This is part of America's PreparAthon and National PrepareAthon Day. If you see the social media post, please take a few moments to review your severe weather plans. If you were actually threatened, would you know where to go and what to do to protect yourself or those you are responsible for? If you can, use this time to conduct a drill and practice your severe weather procedures. A little preparation now may save your life later.
The tornado drill message will only be posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. No other severe weather warning systems will be activated. Local outdoor warnings sirens will not activate, the Emergency Alert System will not activate cell phones, and the media will not broadcast the drill message, altjhough they may post it on their social media accounts. If severe weather warnings are actually in effect at 12 Noon Saturday, the drill message will not be posted. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
