There are many other hazards besides those that involve thunderstorms.  Heat, cold, fog, dust, and wind can all have an impact.  That is why the National Weather Service issues watches, warnings, and advisories related to these hazards.

Heat Advisory (NPW)
A Heat Advisory is issued when the heat index is forecast to reach 105 degrees or greater and/or temperatures will be 103 degrees or higher.
Excessive Heat Warning (NPW)
An Excessive Heat Warning is issued when the heat index is forecast to reach 110 degrees or higher, and/or temperature exceeding 105 degrees.
Freeze Warning (NPW)

A Freeze Warning will typically be issued in the spring or fall growing season if temperatures are expected to be at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 1 to 2 hours. If temperatures are expected to be 28 degrees or less for at least 4 hours during an initial freeze, then this could be considered a hard freeze. In the fall, this advisory will be issued until a killing freeze occurs but no later than November 15th, and again could be used in the spring after the growing season has begun.

A Hard Freeze Warning, issued in the middle of the winter season, would be issued during an arctic outbreak type of event. In this case, overnight low temperatures forecasted to be in the teens or lower, along with a prolonged period of time where temperatures remain below freezing. This type of scenario would not be issued as a threat to agriculture, as an initial freeze warning would be, but rather as a threat to life and property(i.e. pipes bursting, etc.).

Wind Advisory (NPW)
A Wind Advisory is generally issued for sustained winds of 25 mph or greater that will persist for an hour or more, and/or gusts exceeding 40 mph are expected, but less than 58 mph for any duration during the first period of the forecast(i.e. the first 12 hours).
High Wind Warning (NPW)
A High Wind Warning is issued for sustained winds of 40 mph or higher are expected to persist for one hour, or for gusts to 58 mph or greater for any duration during the first period of the forecast(i.e. the first 12 hours).
Dense Fog Advisory (NPW)
A Dense Fog Advisory is issued when fog is expected to reduce visibilities to 1/4 mile or less over a widespread area.
Freezing Fog Advisory (NPW)
A Freezing Fog Advisory is issued when fog is expected to reduce visibilities to 1/2 mile or less over a widespread area, while temperatures are below 32 degrees.
Blowing Dust Advisory (NPW)
A Blowing Dust Advisory is issued when widespread visibilities are at or below 1/4 mile, due to smoke or blowing dust, for any extended period of time.
