A major storm system in the plains will move toward Illinois, producing thunderstorms with heavy rain today through tonight. Flash flooding will be possible.

 

Flood Watches

  • A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for much of the southern half of Illinois, extending northward as far as Springfield, Bloomington, Champaign, and Danville. This is valid from Friday evening into early Monday morning. 

Expected Rainfall Amounts

  • From about I-55 eastward, rainfall amounts are likely to be 3 to 5 inches through Monday morning, with locally higher totals. 
  • Near the Illinois River valley, expected rainfall totals are from 2.5 to 4 inches. 

Impacts

  • Rapid runoff is expected to produce river flooding. 
  • Localized flooding of area roads is expected.
