September 1st severe storms

The atmosphere was very unstable on Monday across southern Kansas where a stalled out frontal boundary became the focus for thunderstorm development during the evening hours.  The storms quickly became severe after 6pm over far southern Kansas which produced a few tornadoes, very large hail up to the size of baseballs, and flooding over far southeast Kansas during the night time hours.  The tornado that tracked across southwest Chautauqua county was rated an EF1 as it produced damage to outbuildings north of Hewins.
